Cowboys Visit

Farm Chick (at heart) and the cowboys came by yesterday to see the progress made doing the demolition on the main floor of the farm house.

Bubba promptly found a locust and decided it was a "camo bug" while Wubba found a frisbee and showed off his throwing skills. Q tried hard to avoid the camera but his smile demands to be photographed!

I'll post about the "Dames Demolition Day" we had but for today, I must water the garden and sod and do more demolition!! Stay tuned!

Wonder People

If you have young children you have probably seen Wonder Pets on tv or perhaps DVD. I just have to say that Linny, Tuck, and Ming Ming have nothing on Grammy and a certain young cowboy who lives at the farm. Here's what happened...

Before Pop left the farm to head to his job in the big city, he told me that there was a baby bird stuck in a window well outside the farm house and it needed help. (Of course, he's a superhero by nature but had to get to work on time so he doesn't blow his cover...anyone who knows him knows this is true.)

So right after Pop left, I went to see if the cowboys were up to rustle up some help and the biggest little cowboy was awake and eating a power breakfast of shredded wheat. When he finished his breakfast we went to assess the situation. What we found was just what Pop said...a baby bird (a robin) down in the deepest window well and a worried mommy robin perched on a post nearby. I'm not sure if she was offering suggestions to her youngster or scolding him.

We decided we needed a stepstool and work gloves. We didn't want to touch the baby bird with our hands because the mommy might not let him back in the nest if he smelled like people. Then we put the stepstool down into the window well and waited to see if the baby bird could figure out how to fly/climb/hop up each step...but he didn't and we had to go in after him.

The little guy was really afraid but we caught him and lifted him up safely to the ground where my cowboy/superhero had a talk with him about finding his mom and his nest. It was a very satisfying experience and we're pretty sure the baby and mommy birds were very grateful.

In fact, they have probably told the other animals around here that we're okay and can be trusted...you know...the word gets around.

Sweet Dreams - Sweet Schemes

Bubba recently outsmarted/outlasted his mom and did NOT take the daily nap...so after dinner, he drifted off. I'm thinking that he was busy making some plans when he fell asleep.

Here are some possibilities for what was on his mind:

  • How can I best avoid naps in the future? Maybe form a coalition called Kids Against Naps (KAN)?
  • I think the tree house needs another level. I'll have to talk to Pop about that.
  • I'm thinking that snacks are better than meals - maybe I should start a kids' group against actual meal time...if Aunt DW can have a club for Moms Against Mini Vans (MAMV), then maybe I can have a Kids Against Sit Down Dinners (KASDD) or Kids Into Mini Meals (KIMM) or maybe Kids Eat All the Time (KEAT). Surely I can find some research to support my theory that it's better for kids to snack all day.
  • I think I might have to figure out a way to make global warming ACTUALLY happen so that I can put an end to winter, being stuck in the house, and can go get in the tree house.
  • I wonder if Grammy is right about God making me grow when I eat good food and get some sleep...maybe I can grow without napping...zzzzz

Someday he'll want a nap and won't get to take one...probably because a four-year-old will be working hard to stay awake and keep everyone around him awake as well. Is that an injustice or what!?!
