The Race

As you know, we live with Grammy and Pop. When you enter our home you have two options... go downstairs to their place or upstairs to ours. Both doors have locks on them. My boys have a new game. It's called "race Mommy up the stairs and then lock her out." The lock is tricky and they can get it to lock but can't manage to unlock it. (and they don't really want to anyway) So there I am...stuck. On the other side of the door are two pre-schoolers laughing victoriously. Lucky for me Grammy saves the day and brings me her key so I can get into my own house. It was funny...the first time.

  1. Interesting the differences between boys and girls...how do you get the point across to them that they are not really safe without a mom at this age? Boys are much more adventurous in that regard...my four girls usually got a little nervous about being alone without a grown up when they were that age.

I guess you have to stay one step ahead of them...so far, so good. Kudos to you, Farm Chick!

I'm remembering a time that at age 2 DW locked herself in her Louisiana Aunt's bathroom and proceeded to "shave her face" with Soft Scrub like Grandpa while six panicked adults tried to get her to unlock the door. Why do they do it??? It's dangerous I tell you!

Praise God for Guardian Angels...that's all I have to say about that!

  4. At least you were inside farm chick. Here is a story from my friend when her first child was 3. She ran out in her P.J.s to feed the dogs. When she got back to the patio door it was locked and her daughter was smiling from ear to ear on the other side. She had to run next door (in her p.j.'s)worrying sick that something would happen at home, knock on her neighbors door, and call her husband at work to come home and let her in the house. She then had to bolt back accross the street and wait by the patio door while her daughter cried inside then face her husband's laughter when he got there to let her in.

  7. This reminds me of a time when we still lived in Hutch. Precious was under 3. We were just getting to Walmart and I got out of the car and shut the door. I was getting ready to open the back door when I realized it was locked and Precious had the keys. She had hit the lock button on the remote. All I could think of was that a cop was going to come and take my kids away because I locked them in the car. I was powerless. She was too little to understand instruction, so I couldn't tell her to unlock the car. She was just pushing buttons on the remote and happened to push the unlock one, so I flung the door open before she could lock it again. It was so much worse in my mind that it was in reality. It's funny how our minds can get away from us at a time like that.
